  1. Diem is a social universe that is designed for women and non-binary folks. They are seeking stories for their publication, The Power Outlet. They want stories that “cover the intersection of gender and power across verticals like technology, health, finance, relationships, and culture.” They also want “stories that examine the candid conversations that we have with each other—about friendships, birth control, toxic masculinity, burnout, harassment, chronic pain, big career moves, enthralling books, and everything in between.” According to their guidelines, their rates start at $200 per story (700 words). Planetizen is “a fiercely independent platform that creates, curates, and amplifies stories and resources to inform planning and people passionate about planning.” They accept newsfeed stories, features, blogs, and Planetizen Courses. They have previously indicated to pay professional writers $500 for a feature or career-related article, and $1,250 to Planetizen Courses instructors for a 1-hour course.   1. The Transmitter is an essential resource for the neuroscience community, dedicated to helping scientists at all career stages stay current and build connections. The publication aims to deliver useful information, insights and tools to build bridges across neuroscience and advance research. They are looking for essays and opinion pieces from scientists and clinicians working in neuroscience and related fields. Writers should aim for ~1,000-1,200 words.   1. Stylist Magazine is a weekly magazine and a website for smart, successful, and sophisticated women. They welcome pitches from freelance writers. They look for “smart, original, newsworthy journalism, covering women’s lifestyle, feminism, current affairs, social trends, culture, health, careers, relationships, dating, sex, and tech.” According to an old post by their fitness editor, they pay £180 per piece.   1. POCIT highlights the stories of POC within the sphere of tech and startups. They primarily look for career-focused content but also accept personal essays, opinion pieces, mega-exclusive interviews, and hard-hitting investigative pieces. They are not always open to submissions. According to their pitch guide, rates begin at $100 for personal essays.
  1. TravelAge West is a travel trade publication serving an audience of modern, business-savvy travel advisors who are always on the hunt for the latest travel trends, industry insights, destination news, practical selling tips and firsthand accounts of the latest travel products and experiences. They are interested in hearing from freelance writers. There are four kinds of ideal TAW stories: career growth/professional development articles, travel trend articles, travel guides and firsthand reviews. They want stories that will inspire the careers of their readers, help them land jobs or develop expertise. According to their pitch guide, they pay $75 to $150 per post.
