So, without further ado, here’s today’s list…
- The Sick Times is a site chronicling the Long Covid crisis. They prioritize pitches from people with Long COVID and related diseases. According to their pitch guide, they pay $1300 for reported news stories of 1200-1500 words and $400 for essays of 1000-1200 words.
- The Ability Toolbox is “a lifestyle and self-help community for people with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and mental health conditions.” They primarily publish work by those who have “personal, lived experience with a disability, chronic illness, and/or mental health condition.” According to their pitch guide, they pay $50-$150/article for original content. Pay range depends on the length as well as the research required for the article. They are not always open to submissions; be sure to carefully check their guidelines before submitting.
- Monarch is an online directory that connects therapy seekers to clinicians. They look to create and publish clear, honest, and actionable mental health articles. They have high journalistic standards. They prize science-backed information with a minimum of 1 to 2 quotes from licensed experts as well as references to a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed studies. They previously indicated to pay a flat rate of $500 per article (1,000 to 3,500 words), but current pay rates are not clear. For details, refer to their writers’ guidelines.
- NutriInspector.com is a health, diet, weight loss blog that largely features product reviews with affiliate links to Amazon. According to their pitch guide, they pay $120 to $180 for 3000 to 4000 words “Ultimate How To Guides”, $120 for long informational articles (2000-3000 words), and $60 for product reviews (1000 words). Refer to their guide for a list of topics they are looking for.
- OC87 Recovery Diaries is an interactive website which features stories on mental health recovery, empowerment and change. They feature stories that inspire others and generate discussion and awareness, and they accept only submissions for those mental health recovery stories. According to their guidelines, they offer an honorarium of $250 for accepted stories.
- The Phoenix Spirit is a “bi-monthly publication for people actively working on their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.” They prefer articles of 800 to 1,500 words. They want “stories that address one of our themes, fit one of our columns, or deal specifically with recovery from addictions and 12 Step programs.” According to their writer’s guidelines, they pay $35 per article and $100 to $150 per lead article.
- Health.com is a source for information on fitness, nutrition, beauty, wellness, and lifestyle. The majority of their readers are female. They previously had a detailed pitching guide, which detailed rates as $200-$1,000 for personal essays and topical service; $250-$1,000 for reports/trend pieces; $200-$500 for explainers, as told to, and social trends; and $150 to $300 for product reviews. Their pitching guide is not available, but they say they’re actively looking for new writers. To contact them, visit this page.
- Self covers health and wellness. They are always seeking new writers and are especially excited to work more frequently with BIPOC, LGBTQ+ writers and writers from other marginalized groups. They want stories that explore personal, community, or public health, ideally with a service element. Their main categories of focus are health, fitness, food, beauty, love, and lifestyle. According to their pitch guide, their rates start at $450 for short and quick news stories, reported service stories start at $500, and features start at $800.
